Our library held 34,624 apps on 14 August 2026. Of those, 26,917 hold an App Store listing, 15,803 hold a Google Play listing, and 8,096 hold both. The both-stores group is 23.4% of the library.
The three counts reconcile against the total. 26,917 plus 15,803 is 42,720; take away the 8,096 counted in each, and 34,624 is left, which is the library to the app. So every app we hold has at least one linked listing, and none of them is counted twice.
That is the whole measurement. No model, no estimate, no classifier, no interpretation: four counters read on one morning, and three of them reconcile to the fourth.
26,528 apps sit on one store and no other
Apps, not listings. Each single-store group is one store's count minus the 8,096 apps that appear in both.

The figures behind this chart
| App Store only | 18,821 |
| Google Play only | 7,707 |
| Both stores | 8,096 |
34,624 apps · Library snapshot, 14 August 2026
App Store only is 18,821 apps, 54.4% of the 34,624. Google Play only is 7,707, or 22.3%. Both stores is 8,096, or 23.4%. The three shares are rounded to one decimal and sum to 100.1%.
Read from each store's side, the same 8,096 apps produce two different rates. Of the 26,917 apps with an App Store listing, 30.1% also hold Google Play. Of the 15,803 with a Google Play listing, 51.2% also hold the App Store.
Those two rates are one number divided two ways, so they are one fact and not two. In this library the smaller store population is the more cross-listed one. A Google Play app is close to a coin flip to hold the App Store as well. An App Store app is closer to three in ten.

Google Play publishes an install band, and the App Store publishes none
What each store prints on a public listing, and why one side of an install comparison is always modeled.
A port moves you into the smaller group and the more readable one
What the counts above support for a founder sitting on one store, and what they do not.
If you are App Store only, 18,821 apps in this library are where you are and 8,096 are where you would land. Neither figure says the port pays. What they set is the base rate: one store is the ordinary condition of the apps we track, at 26,528 of 34,624.
Our data cannot price the port. Downloads and revenue are third-party estimates, not figures reported by the developer. They are rounded at source, so a month-to-month movement of a million is rounding and not growth. A before-and-after read across one launch month would be reading that rounding.
The library spans 31 categories of unequal size. Utilities is 3,354 apps, Games 2,499 and Finance 2,453. Those three alone are 8,306 of the 32,751 apps the category counter covers, or 25.4%. A library-wide split averages over all 31, and the split you act on is your category's.
What these counts cannot tell you
The library is a sample shaped by demand, and a listing we have not linked reads exactly like a listing that does not exist.
These figures describe Apptonic's own library as of 14 August 2026. The library is a growing sample of the app market, not a census. Apps enter it because a customer asked about one, or because it arrived as somebody's competitor, so the mix follows who our customers compete with. If the people asking skew toward one store, so does 23.4%.
The measurement error has a known direction. An app counts in a store's column when we hold a listing for it there. A second listing we have not found leaves that app in a single-store group.
Unlinked pairs push the both-stores count down and never up. 8,096 is therefore a floor, and we publish no rate for how often it happens, because we have not measured it.
What we hold per app is also uneven, and any comparison built on top of these counts inherits that.

Four comparisons a reader will want are missing, because we have not counted them. They are the store split by category, the split by price, ratings per store, and install estimates per store.
The first two are one count per store per category off the listing browse. The last two run only on the subsets that carry the data: 14,498 apps with an estimate, 2,488 with reviews. Each needs its own denominators printed, and each is a separate article.
One more question stays open, and it is the one a founder asks first. This page cannot say which store an app started on. Every listing carries its own store release date, and we have not compared those dates across the 8,096 two-store apps. Until that runs, the launch-order pattern here is unknown, and any account of iOS-first is a story and not a count.
How we counted
We read three counters over the app library at 04:29 UTC on 14 August 2026. They are apps holding an App Store listing, apps holding a Google Play listing, and apps holding both. With the library total of 34,624, those numbers are the entire basis of this page.
The single-store figures are subtractions. 26,917 minus 8,096 leaves 18,821 on the App Store alone; 15,803 minus 8,096 leaves 7,707 on Google Play alone. Every store share divides by 34,624 unless the sentence names a different denominator.
The category counts come from a different counter with a different total. Its 31 labels cover 32,751 apps, 1,873 fewer than the library total, because the two are computed differently. Category shares on this page divide by 32,751 and store shares by 34,624.
An app is counted once, whatever number of listings it has. It counts in a store's column when the library holds a listing for it there. An app whose second listing we have not found counts as single-store, which pulls the both-stores figure down and never up.
These figures describe Apptonic's own library as of 14 August 2026. The library is a growing sample of the app market, not a census. Downloads and revenue are third-party estimates, not figures reported by the developer. This page prints none of them and counts only how many apps have one.

Frequently asked
- Does this mean fewer than a quarter of all apps are on both stores?
- No. It is 23.4% of the 34,624 apps our library held on 14 August 2026. Apps enter the library because a customer asked about one, or because it arrived as a competitor. The mix follows demand and not the stores. Apple and Google publish no list of their catalogs, so nobody can weight a sample like ours against the population.
- How does an app count as being on both stores?
- When the library holds an App Store listing and a Google Play listing under the same app record. If we hold one and have not linked the other, the app counts as single-store here. The error therefore runs one way: 8,096 is a floor for the both-stores group, and 23.4% is a floor with it. We do not publish a figure for how often a pair goes unlinked, because we have not measured it.
- Which store should I launch on first?
- These counts do not answer that. What they show is where the apps we hold sit today: 18,821 on the App Store alone against 7,707 on Google Play alone. Launch order would be answered by the two store release dates on the 8,096 apps that hold both. We have not run that comparison.
- Why is there no ratings or installs comparison between the stores here?
- We have not counted them per store, and coverage is uneven. Of the 34,624 apps, 14,498 carry a download or revenue estimate and 2,488 carry collected reviews. A rating comparison also needs each app's two ratings blended by rating count first. Both are separate pieces of work with their own counts.
- Will these numbers be the same if I check next month?
- No. The counters were read at 04:29 UTC on 14 August 2026 and this page is not refreshed. The library takes in new apps daily, so all four figures grow. The shares move more slowly than the counts, and we restate the date on every article for that reason.
